There’s an ongoing debate on whether Google gives any weight to keywords found in the URL. Some people believe that it does, while others think the benefits are marginal. I have always believed that URL keywords are important, and hence you’ll notice that this site uses the post title as the URL for this post.
Today, and for the first time ever, I accidentally came across evidence that Google does take into consideration keywords found in the URL. My query was seo backlink node, and below is the result I got:

To be sure that the word ‘node‘ was not inside the content of that page and it just happened to also be in the URL, I scanned the entire page using the Google Toolbar, and that word was no where to be found. This confirms that Google Search Results do take into account URL keywords.
